OPEN MIC - THE FWSA MONTHLY OPEN MIC EVENT IS FOR BOTH ASSOCIATION MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPANTS - BEGINNERS AND HOBBYISTS ALIKE. EACH PERFORMER IS NORMALLY LIMITED TO 3 SONGS OR 15 MINUTES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. SIGN UP SLOTS ARE DETERMINED ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. THE FOCUS OF THE OPEN MIC IS ON ORIGINAL SONGS, ENCOURAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY, NOT COMPETITION. IT'S A PLACE TO TRY NEW MATERIAL, LEARNING TO OVERCOME STAGE FRIGHT, OR JUST SHARING WORDS AND MUSIC YOU LOVE. THE FWSA OPEN MIC IS A NO COST EVENT ALTHOUGH WE ENCOURAGE ALL PERFORMERS TO CONSIDER DINING ON ONE OF FRED'S MANY OUTSTANDING FOOD ITEMS (MY FAVORITE ARE THE NACHOES - ENOUGH FOR 2 OR MORE TABLE GUESTS. AND BY THE WAY, FRED'S HAS A GREAT SELECTION OF BEVERAGES!

A MEMORIAL DAY event is planned on 25 May 2026, hosted at the Farr Best Theater in Mansfield by the MZP Foundation, a nonprofit - public charity and partner with the Theater. This event is organized by local veterans with support by members of the Fort Worth Songwriters Association. Please consider attending this Memorial Day morning event as the community gathers to observe, remember and honor the memory of our fallen sisters and brothers who paid the ultimate price to ensure the freedoms and privileges we as Americans cherish.

This is a FREE event with doors opening at 9:30 AM. The program begins with Posting of the Colors at 10:00 AM followed by a musical tribute of patriotic and traditional songs, historical readings by local veterans, followed at 11:30 AM by a fellowship continental breakfast with coffee, juice and breakfast pastries. Community veterans, their families, friends and neighbors are all encouraged to join with local veterans at this Mid-Morning tribute.

THE MONTHLY FWSA WORKSHOP/GATHERING IS ONE OF THE BEST KEPT SECRETS OF THE ASSOCIATION. THESE MEETINGS ARE CONDUCTED IN A SUPPORTIVE ATMOSPHERE WITH THE FOCUS ON ENCOURAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY, NOT COMPETITION. IT'S A PLACE TO TRY NEW MATERIAL, OVERCOME PERFORMANCE FRIGHT, OR JUST SHARE IN THE JOYS OF SONGWRITING WHILE GETTING CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS FROM THE MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE. ALTHOUGH THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO ATTEND ONE EVENT BEFORE JOINING THE ASSOCIATION, BECAUSE WE INVITE SPECIAL GUESTS AS SPEAKERS AND OFTEN PAY A SMALL STIPEND FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION, WE ASK THAT NON-MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC JOIN THE ASSOCIATION IN ORDER TO CONTINUE ATTENDING THE WORKSHOP. THE COST OF JOINING IS MINIMAL - SEE THE APPLICATION IN YOUR MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OR ON THE FWSA WEBSITE. AND BY THE WAY, GREAT FOOD AND BEVERAGES ARE AVAILALBE AT THE "NO FRILLS GRILL" PRIOR TO THE START OF THE WORKSHOP EACH MONTH.

Monthly Board of Directors meeting is scheduled on the 1ST TUESDAY of each month at the No Frills Grill in Burleson. All Association members are invited to attend although only appointed Directors are permitted to vote. The formal Board meeting begins at 7:00 pm and is scheduled for 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you plan on dining at the Grill, please plan on arriving by 6:30 pm.
