Fort Worth Songwriters Association
The Fort Worth Songwriters Association, Incorporated, is a non-profit organization, formed exclusively for charitable, literary and educational purposes as defined in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The purposes of the Association include providing, educating, and promoting public awareness and interest in songwriting and the creation of music as an art form. Established in 1992, the Association is a permanent organization in Fort Worth, Texas, seeking to enrich the local community through activities promoting songwriting and original music, providing opportunities for the members of the community to network and recognize their talents in songwriting, and serving as a resource for songwriters as they undertake activities to assist in the establishment, promotion, and/or presentation of songwriting. With positive feedback and support from the community, the FWSA's origin was in the National Historic "Stockyards" District in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1992.
FWSA sponsors weekly "Open Mic Nights"at Texas Grill in west Fort Worth that is open to both members and the general public, 18 years of age or older. It is considered a weekly highlight of entertainment for locals, as well as visiting tourists to the area. FWSA publishes a monthly newsletter, "The Songwriters' Roundup", that keeps members informed of the latest FWSA news, articles of general interests, and special events in the area. It also includes a monthly calendar, classified ads, and much more. In addition, this website (www.fwsa.com) presents a current base of information and access to the group's events on a timely basis, including a member profile for each member.
Every month. a gathering is held on the second Thursday night at 7:00 pm. The location for this get-together is the Bluebonnet Room at Rodeo Plaza (between Stockyards Boulevard & Exchange Avenue), in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Programs vary from month to month, with guest speakers, workshops, and song critiques among the activities.
